You do not need to get fit before you start.

Starting strength training should not require confidence, experience or knowledge of gym equipment. That is what the supervision is for.

Many people know that becoming stronger would help them stay active and capable, but conventional gyms can feel busy, unfamiliar or intimidating. IMPROVE was designed for people who want the benefits of strength training without being left to work everything out for themselves.

Every movement is explained, every machine is set up for you and every session is supervised from start to finish. Your starting loads are based on your current ability and progress gradually as you become stronger.

What happens during your first session?

We start with you

We talk about your goals, experience and what becoming stronger would help you continue doing in everyday life.

You learn each movement

We introduce the six machines, find comfortable settings and explain the slow, controlled technique.

We find your starting point

Loads are selected individually. There is no pressure to lift heavily and no expectation that you already know what to do.

A simple method you can repeat.

Each session covers six carefully selected strength movements. The exercises are performed slowly and deliberately, with your technique guided throughout.

Your settings, loads and performance are recorded, so each visit begins where the previous one finished. You do not need to remember a programme, count complicated sets or decide when to increase the resistance—we take care of that with you.

Sessions last around 20 minutes and are normally completed once each week.

Beginner questions

Do I need any strength training experience?

No. Every movement is explained and supervised, and your starting settings and loads are chosen for you.

Do I need to be fit before I start?

No. The session is adapted to your current ability. Becoming fitter or stronger is the reason to begin, not a requirement before you arrive.

Will someone stay with me throughout the session?

Yes. Every session is supervised from start to finish. You are not given a programme and left to complete it alone.

How long will the session take?

Around 20 minutes, covering six carefully selected movements.

What should I wear?

Wear comfortable clothing that allows you to move easily. Specialist gym clothing is not necessary.

What if I have a medical condition?

Training can often be adapted, but if you have a medical condition or are unsure whether exercise is appropriate, please speak to an appropriate healthcare professional before starting.
